Intro to Dance (Creative Movement and Musicality)

Eligibility: Age three at the start of the CAPA year (August).

This class helps build a love for creative dance and musicality, 100% fun! The goal of this class is to provide a healthy and positive experience that stimulates a love for dance, music, and movement by introducing ballet technique while also encouraging a child’s free expression. Intro to Dance classes perform in the June Showcase.

Beginning Dance (Tap and Pre-Ballet)

Eligibility: Entering Kindergarten or the completion one year of Intro to Dance.

This class introduces the classical ballet positions and leaps as well as the rhythm steps of tap. There is a focus on helping students understand dance class structure, taking turns, and expressing themselves all while fostering a love for dance, music, and movement in an encouraging and positive environment. Beginning Dance classes perform in the June Showcase.

Young Dancer (Tap and Ballet)

Eligibility: Entering 1st Grade or the completion of one year of Beginning Dance.

This class dives deeper into classical ballet movement and terminology. It also incorporates the coordination and rhythm of tap dance while encouraging these little dancers to express themselves creatively.

Young Dancer classes perform in the June Showcase.

Helpful Info for Primary or “Littles” Classes

**BEFORE CLASS: If you arrive early for class, we ask that all students wait in the lobby with their parents before class. They can look at dance magazines or practice their steps in the lobby while they wait. Please don’t allow dancers or siblings to run around unattended in an open studio….we can’t be responsible for any injuries that may occur in a non-teacher supervised space, and it’s super important to us to keep all the kids at CAPA safe. Please make sure your dancer uses the restroom before classes begins, as leaving the room during class disrupts other students and the teacher.

**DURING CLASS: Please limit watchers in our smaller lobbies so that we do not have disruptions to the classes being conducted. See studio care and sibling section below.

**SHOES: Parents please double knot the students ties on their ballet shoes (you never need to untie ballet slippers to get them on and off). Please remove the ties from tap shoes and replace them with “tap elastics” if the shoe does not already have them (we sell tap elastics in the office for just a few dollars). This will help us dance more and tie shoes less
