June Showcase

 What Is It?

All students at CAPA have the opportunity to participate in our annual June Showcase. This community tradition is an exciting and fun adventure for both performer and audience. Preparations begin after the Winter Holiday with choreography and costume selections.  Each class performs one piece in the show, with the exception of ballet levels 3 and up (those dancers have the opportunity to join a ballet company which does perform in the show).  The performances are generally scheduled for the week after the Lamorinda public schools let out for the summer.  Dates are below.  CAPA families have learned through the years that this is “CAPA WEEK” and make their vacation plans accordingly. Commitments include the rehearsals which are mandatory as well as current payments for classes and costumes.

When Is It?

Dress rehearsals for our 2018 June Showcase will be on June 9th & 10th, and the shows will run from June 11th – June 16th.  Each class generally performs in two shows.  There are three separate shows, A, B and C, and each has two performance days, so each dancer needs to be available for the two days of dress rehearsal (6/9 & 6/10), and then the two shows their class gets assigned to…which will be either Mon/Thurs, Tues/Fri or Weds/Sat.  The show assignments and show order typically comes out in March.  Please note that in order to be able to participate, dancers need to be present for both dress rehearsals and both performances their class is assigned to.

TICKETS: Tickets will be available for purchase online (about a month prior, via Eventbrite.com), and information will be sent out prior to the on-sale date with full info on how to go about it.

REHEARSAL ATTENDANCE POLICY:  Attendance at all scheduled rehearsals is mandatory in order to be able to have a cohesive and smoothly running show.  We post the dates many months in advance on the CAPA calendar on this website so that students and families can plan accordingly.  Participation in the June Showcase is not mandatory, so if your dancer does not wish to or is unable to perform, that’s ok.  Just let us know hopefully before January.  In order to be fair to all and to not have empty spots onstage, no student may perform in any performance unless she performs in ALL of the performances scheduled for her group.  This is not meant to be punitive, rather it’s a matter of fairness to the other dancers in the class who would be adversely affected.  Thanks for your understanding!

COSTUMES: For our June Showcase, costumes are selected by the director and teachers. These costumes cost our dancers far less than other schools and are selected with the budget in mind, but they are not free. Please keep in mind that we do our best to select appropriate, attractive costumes at a reasonable cost.  Certain Ensemble costumes are saved for re-use.  All dancers will be measured for costumes in January, and the costume deposits you made at the beginning of the year will be applied to the cost.  If your dancer will not be participating in the June Showcase, please let us know by December 31st.  This is the last date to be eligible for a refund of your costume deposit and to not be charged for the balances of your costumes, which are ordered in January.  Thank you!
