Nutcracker & Concerto Dress Rehearsal Info

Rehearsal times (Nutcracker & Concerto performance order at bottom)

CAST NUMBERS AND COLORS:

  • The Red and Green color designations are for company/ensemble dances. Your dancer knows which cast they are in.
  • The numeric designations as in “Cast #1” refer to the casting for auditioned roles only, and are divided into #1, #2 and #3, as follows.  You do not need to worry about these numbers if your dancer is only performing with her ensemble or ballet company…those are simply Red & Green.
    • Cast #1: Shows 1 and 5 (Red)
    • Cast #2: Shows 2 and 6 (Green)
    • Cast #3: Shows 3 (Green) and 4 (Red)

“Ready to Dance” times are when rehearsal actually begins. You must be ready to dance at that time. Performers should be present 30 minutes before the rehearsal in order to prepare. We understand that there are students who are dismissed from school later and are unable to ask for an early dismissal. Please arrive as quickly as possible, and do your hair and makeup in the car.

We will try very hard to be on time as much as possible, but this is a rehearsal, and can be unpredictable. We have far fewer required rehearsals than any other NUTCRACKER. Please understand if we are running a somewhat off schedule – we’ll do the very best we can, but we must get it right!

During rehearsal, dancers who are not on stage must be present observing the rehearsal when their counterparts are rehearsing.

COSTUMES, HAIR AND MAKEUP

•       Costumes:  For the three days of rehearsal, red and green casts will rehearse in costume at different times.  All other dancers should be in dancewear, but with hair done properly.  On Saturday, all casts will dance in costume – Green Cast first, Red Cast second.

•       Make up:  No make-up for the Saturday rehearsal.  Full make-up for Sunday and Thursday (no ringlets for Thursday, though, as most kids are coming straight from school).

•       Ringlets: Ringlets are needed for dances that require them on Saturday and Sunday, but not Thursday because we understand most dancers will be coming straight from school.  Dancers requiring ringlets must have all hair in front of the ears pulled back into a half ponytail (we call it “half up/half down”). The ponytail should have a piece of the dancer’s hair from underneath the ponytail wrapped around the hair elastic, then bobby pinned in place, so that all you see is the dancer’s hair.

If you do not know how to do it, ask any mom who already has done them.  You’ll soon be an expert!
